Shabbat hal-Bashal is an ancient custom to collect clothing for the less fortunate. It was practiced for hundreds of years in the Ottoman Empire, Spain and Portugal and was repeated three to four times per year for each season. The Friday Shabbat just prior to Chanukah is the Winter collection according to this tradition.Temple Beth David is re-establishing this custom and hope to make it an annual event.
Donation boxes are located outside the Temple Beth David and Temple Beth Am sanctuaries at Door A. Donations received prior to December 20 will be delivered to this year’s chosen charity,
Jewish Family Service.
