Temple Beth David in the Age of COVID-19: Streaming Services on Shabbat and Yom Tov

Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 6:00pm

It is an ancient tradition for Jews to study Torah together on the eve of Shavuot until the sun rises the next morning (known as Tikkun Leil Shavuot תיקון ליל שבועות). But fear not, for we are scheduled to gather online at 6:00pm and to conclude our discussion by no later than 8:00pm – and you’re free to stay as long as you’d like!

This year we will explore the future of prayer services at Temple Beth David during the Coronavirus pandemic. We will look at the recent ruling by the Conservative movement which endorses the livestreaming of services on Shabbat and Festivals, and we’ll discuss the implications of this for us at TBD.

ZOOM MEETING: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83603799441?pwd=V21FVkxiUkVqaDFyTk4zUUlpRjZKZz09

(please log-on promptly or even a few minutes before)

MEETING ID: 836 0379 9441

PASSWORD: 300625

Please note: While TBD members and non-members alike are welcome to attend and to participate in this event, the group-discussion will focus directly on the implications of this development for our TBD community.

If you feel up to it, you’re welcome to check out the complete teshuvah / תשובה / responsum in the meantime. (On Thursday evening we plan to explain some selected passages and then discuss what they would mean for us at TBD, so this is by no means “required reading” for Thursday night – it is purely for your interest):
